Your consciousness is a reality-creating vessel.
Don’t ask, “Who am I?” ask, “Who do I want to be?”
“You are not your reality — you are that which is capable of experiencing an infinite number of realities. Wake up to the canvas — you are the living art of self creation.”
There are many ways in which the primal question within us can be approached — whether that be:
- “Who am I?”
- “What is this?”
- “Where do I come from?”
- “Where did this all begin?”
- “Is there more than what I perceive through my biological senses?”
Because it is concerned with what is currently present, “Who am I?” tends to be the most approachable, and the question often becomes a central focus for those on the spiritual path. While it is a powerful question that is certainly worthy of attention, it carries the presumption that what you are, despite your ever-changing face, carries within it some transcendent level of definition that can be accurately described when the correct knowledge is discovered — ‘the truth of you.’
What you are cannot be contained in words.
In the asking of “Who am I?” is seeking a response that fits the pattern of “I am this — not that.” However, the deepest truth is that, from the widest perspective…
… you are ALL things.
The realization that you are connected to all things does not subsume the value of each of the infinite experiences of connection that can be had with each and every individual. As you step into the realization that you are the creator of your reality, the question, “Who am I?’ becomes, “Who do I want to be?” Notice the shift from wondering about your spiritual heritage — which you will fully remember upon death — to fantasizing about who you can be and what you can do in your current life … in the present moment.
To predominantly focus your spiritual journey on the past or the future — the remembering of and then the returning to your spiritual heritage as opposed to focusing on the self that is present — makes your present self impotent. To not be the self that is present is to be in resistance to your current form / choice of self.
When your mortal self dies, your consciousness returns to the knowing of its infinite nature. When this happens, what will be most exciting is not the return to that which you have eternally known and been (what we think of as ‘the afterlife’) but the full knowing and assimilation of the mortal life you are currently present within.
Seek to discover yourself through the creation of yourself within this lifetime.
Seek to unashamedly be yourself — both inwardly and outwardly. You will make the most profound discoveries about yourself and the nature of reality by expressively / creatively being yourself rather than by thinking about “Who am I?”
Unless you’ve dreamt about it from childhood, in order to ‘be more spiritual’ do not seek to be some yogi on a mountaintop. Seek to unashamedly engage life with such transparency that you reveal yourself to yourself. Seek to know all your masks. Seek to reveal and transform your fears.
Our experience of reality dominates us to the degree that we think it is what we are. We believe we are the sum of our experience, but we are so much more.
- You are not your actions — you are that which is capable of an infinite number of actions.
- You are not your thoughts — you are that which is capable of thinking any thought.
- You are not your emotions — you are that which is capable of feeling any emotion.
- You are not finite — you are infinite.
- You are not your genetic code — you are a vessel capable of an infinite number of expressions of genetic code / embodiment.
- You are not your reality — you are that which is capable of experiencing an infinite number of realities.
- You are not only the self that you currently know — you are that which is capable of experiencing an infinite number of selves.
- You are not contained by your experience — you are the creator of your experience.
- You are not mortal — you are immortal.
- You are not just this one human life — you are the potential of life itself.
Consciousness is far more than our memories, the beliefs that have arisen from them, and the application of our will based upon those beliefs. We are not just an accumulation of experience.
Your reality is not what your consciousness is.
Your consciousness is a vessel of reality.
Your consciousness is a vessel of reality, and you are capable of experiencing an infinite number of forms / realities. This is not saying what you are; it is saying what you are capable of. That capability is a part of what you are (meaning you cannot be separated from it), but it is not all that you are.
This infinite potential / capability is a part of what we all are. It is that which is common to all. It is that which expresses the equality of all in how it renders all equal (in that everyone has the same potential because everyone has infinite potential). The infinite capability is life … is being … is ‘to be.’ You are that which implements the one infinite capability. If this capability is seen as a vehicle, then you are the driver.
You are that which is utilizing the infinite capability of life through your choice of how you focus it.
To understand yourself as an infinite vessel for reality is to know yourself to be the chooser of the reality you are experiencing. What is more, with that choice being infinite in scope, for all intents and purposes, you are the creator of your reality. You create realities by transforming your self — your consciousness is a reality-creating vessel.
You can choose to experience anything you can imagine.
We are each eternal consciousness, and it is the nature of that consciousness to create realities for itself to experience (realities of selves). We are each the choice of the one eternal consciousness to experience itself in human form. We are each the choice to experience ourselves / what we are / what we find ourselves to be.
You focus this infinite potential through your choice of focus / self-identification. Your sense of identity / ‘who you are’ arises through both joy and fear-based factors of self-identification, which are expressed through what you do and don’t like. We tend to see our attachments as being either positive or negative, usually with attachments to things considered positive being seen as good and attachments to things deemed negative as bad. For example, attachment to alcohol is seen as bad, but attachment to your spouse or children is seen as good.
Another common way of perceiving this is through the idea that attachment through a feeling of love is positive, and attachment through a feeling of possessiveness is negative (so if your attachment causes you to become jealous and controlling, it is seen as bad). In this, see how we typically experience attachments in a polarized way, where they are seen as blessings or curses with no — or very few — shades in between.
The reason for this polarization is that attachments carry an emotional charge because they represent a belief in a state of inequality, tension, and lack — rather than balance, harmony, and wholeness).
Attachment is fear-based.
Your attachments are relatively easy to identify and work with because — although they are states of feeling — they tend to be clearly (and sometimes dramatically) represented at the level of belief. For example, if you ask yourself questions about what would happen if you no longer had access to whatever you are attached to, you will quickly start revealing the limiting beliefs you are carrying regarding that attachment.
These beliefs will reveal how you believe you will be personally diminished by the loss of what you are attached to (which typically centers on the idea that your happiness, security, and well-being will be threatened). We believe that what we are attached to is somehow necessary or fundamental to what we are (meaning that without it, we are missing something vital we need to operate well). This belief reflects a lack of sovereignty (the knowing that you are complete / have everything you need).
To know yourself as a sovereign being is to be without attachment. And that is to feel as if you are flying because, without the weight of fear, that is what consciousness does. So remember, …
You are the creator of the reality you are experiencing through your choice of focus within infinite possibility.
